Incumbent in this class performs process duties related to overseeing the daily operations of an assigned dental clinic. Responsibilities include managing assigned clinical staff, coordinating dental programs with community organizations, and performing the duties of a practicing dentist as required.This is the first level within a three-level dental services classification series. Dentist, Supervisor is distinguished from Dental Services, Manager in that the former manages assigned clinical staff in addition to overseeing daily dental clinic operations, whereas the latter oversees the County\'s Dental Services Program in addition to managing assigned staff and developing and monitoring assigned program budget.Oversees dental clinic operations, including establishing priorities; evaluating programs; ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations; and maintaining a clean and safe clinical environment. Manages assigned clinical staff, including establishing workloads, prioritizing work assignments, evaluating employee performance, interpreting and enforcing policies and procedures, resolving staff issues, and administering disciplinary action as required. Initiates community dental screening and health education programs and coordinates programs with community organizations. Performs the duties of a practicing dentist as required, including evaluating the condition of patients\' teeth; interpreting dental x-rays; diagnosing oral diseases and infections; performing a variety of dental therapies, such as carious teeth restoration, nerve treatment, root canals, oral prophylaxis, and tooth extractions; overseeing the preparation of patients\' records; and consulting with parents concerning the care and condition of children\'s teeth.
