Job Description:
The School of Information Studies (iSchool) at Syracuse University seeks a technically skilled, creative, and team-oriented web producer.
The web producer will maintain the school’s web site (ischool.syr.edu); propose changes to the web site; and work with marketing and technical staff to implement enhancements to the site. The successful candidate will also provide guidance and support to marketing staff in utilizing new media outlets to reach all of its audiences. This person will act as the liaison between the iSchool’s IT services and marketing staff, and will lead the web committee. S/he will need to be a team-player and able to synthesize input from multiple stakeholders.
General responsibilities include day-to-day maintenance of web content, including photos, video, webcasts, podcasts and other media; designing and creating new web pages with Communications Director to complement printed marketing materials and promote iSchool priorities; and lead the planning, development, design, and implementation of new web applications. S/he will ensure a visually consistent site by adhering to relevant standards, guidelines, and policies and promoting uniform fonts, formatting, icons, images and layout techniques.
The successful candidate will assess new standards, technologies, and trends, and use that information to recommend strategies and techniques for enhancing the web site. S/he will issue periodic reports of site traffic to Communications Director and Marketing Director; improve search engine optimization; ensure site is ADA compliant on multiple platforms and browsers; recommend changes to existing functions, systems, processes, and implement new ones to improve efficiency and effectiveness of the web site and new media communications.
The web producer will be responsible for ensuring that the iSchool web site features cutting-edge functionality and user-centered design, possibly including an intranet or secure-access portions of the web site. S/he will develop training programs for faculty and staff, as needed.
Job Requirements:
A bachelor’s degree is required, and a master’s degree is preferred, in a relevant area of study. The successful candidate will have at least three years experience in web development and design. S/he should be proficient in Adobe PhotoShop, AdobeFlash, XHTML, and CSS. Experience with server side programming and knowledge of Illustrator, MS Visual Web Developer, and ASP/ASP.NET is a plus.
In addition to web development experience, this person must possess effective oral and written communication skills, excellent listening skills, and the ability to analyze business needs and create technical solutions for those needs.
