Job Description:
Our client, a busy Manufacturing Company, is currently looking for a Controller for their Binghamton, NY facility.
The candidate would be responsible for the location’s accounting practices and controls, maintenance of all cost accounting records, and preparation of financial reports, forecasting, and planning.
Responsibilities include:
- Directs preparation of annual budgets, reviews budget proposals, and prepares necessary supporting documentation. Recommends course corrections.
- Completes financial analysis, Discounted Cash Flow, ROI, Make/Buy, Gross Margin and Pricing Proposals.
- Supervise general accounting, cost accounting and government compliance.
- Responsible for the integrity of the General Ledger.
- Complete monthly financial closings, forecasting and required financial reporting.
- Evaluate results of operations, trends, etc. and recommend courses of action and policy changes beneficial to the operation.
- Provided technical financial advice and knowledge to others within the function and operations.
- Maintain effective internal controls to ensure protection of assets and an accurate reporting of financial position. Ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
- Assistance in preparation of government contract proposals and submission of cost and pricing data
- Drives improvements in Working Capital.
- Demonstrated strong understanding of GAAP and Cost Accounting. Ensure revenue recognition compliance. Monitor accounting policy and procedures ensuring a sound internal control environment in accordance with Sarbanes – Oxley 404 and compliance with GAAP.
- Partner with Business Unit Manager and their staff to deliver the groups goals.
- Travel: 5 - 10% primarily domestic

Job Requirements:
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in Accounting and/or Finance required, MBA and/or CPA preferred, and 5 plus years in a controllership function managing a P&L of $50M - $100M. Must have 3-5 years supervisory experience.
- Your experience must include working for a public entity. You must have a strong background in GAAP, SEC Reporting and Sarbanes-Oxley Act compliance as well as Manufacturing Finance. Government contract accounting, familiarity with Federal Acquisitions Regulation (FAR) and Cost Accounting Standards (CAS) highly desirable. Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing experience a plus.
- You must be a team player who has demonstrated capabilities in the following areas: excellent communication, presentation, leadership and interpersonal skills, well developed problem-solving skills; solid organizational skills; and the demonstrated ability to be self-directed and effectively relate to all levels of an organization. You must be known for your attention to detail, very strong work ethic and high energy. You must be a hands on individual with the ability to see the big picture. You must have proven business partnership skills with the demonstrated ability to work in a matrix organizational environment. You must also have the ability to work well under pressure, multi task and meet deadlines.
- You must have the demonstrated ability to manage staff, set goals and objectives to meet Business Unit goals as well as the proven ability to select talent and develop subordinates.
- Computer skills to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Hyperion Enterprise and Oracle. American Software International experience a plus.
