Job Description:
The new Head of Cell Biology will lead the research and discovery effort with the primary mission to build a strong internal program with the end goal to develop antibody-based cancer therapeutics. We are seeking a well-recognized international expert who is currently leading a research group focused on specific angiogenesis pathways relevant to tumour growth and control. Examples of such areas of interest include studies of the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) family, the Notch family, the fibroblast growth factor (FGF) family and the cadherin family. It is necessary that the successful candidate also brings to the table a clear understanding of cancer/cancer genetics, systems biology, and/or receptor/membrane biology, coupled with a strong desire to translate his/her discoveries into therapeutics. Key responsibilities of the role are to: ' Provide strategic, scientific and organizational leadership: o Acts as a key opinion leader within the Division and contribute to the development of Cancer Research strategy, technologies and processes. o Initiate and direct discovery research initiatives that enable the identification and advancement of novel targets for cancer therapy. o Oversees the initiation and advancement of new drug discovery programs. o Participate in licensing and technology evaluation teams as required. o Develop budgets and timelines, and execute workplans. o As a member of the Research Management Committee, share responsibility for research management, program selection, goal setting, strategy and execution, and policies.
