The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene's, Public Health Laboratory (PHL) is seeking an experienced, talented, and highly-motivated manager to oversee the Microbiology section. The PHL is one of the largest public health reference laboratories in the country and , with a staff of over 200, provides state-of-the-art laboratory testing for health care organizations, patients, environmental samples and agents that may be related to bio or chemical-terrorism. Joining the PHL's management team, and under the direction of the Assistant Commissioner, duties will include; formulating and implementing operational policies goals, objectives and programs related to the Division of Microbiology. Overseeing a large staff of professional microbiologists working in areas of clinical and environmental microbiology, including: mycobacteriology, parasitology, enteric and general bacteriology, molecular STD, and special agents that may be related to bioterrorism. Working in a dynamic management team environment in developing and implementing new protocols related to testing and quality assurance. Representing the PHL at local, state and national meetings. Working with health professionals in other bureaus within the Department (such as Communicable Diseases, Food Safety and Community Sanitation) to maintain and improve laboratory testing services to support their activities. Ensuring compliance with all regulatory agencies' laws.
