Job Description:
Assumes responsibility for the effective and safe utilization of all medical equipment within the medical center. Develops a medical center-wide electrical safety program to reduce hazards for both patients and clinical staff. Develops an Equipment Management Program designed to assess and control the clinical and physical risks of both fixed and portable equipment used for the diagnosis, treatment monitoring and care of patients and other electrically powered equipment. Review this program annually to ensure compliance with JCAHO requirements. Organizes, plans and presents educational training courses/seminars on such topics as Electrical Safety, Biomedical instrumentation, etc. for staff physicians, engineering personnel, nursing and other allied health personnel periodically or as needed. Coordinates section activities with organizations throughout the medical center, serving as work scheduler, technical advisor and long-range planner. In this regard, incumbent serves as member of and advisor to various medical center committees. Incumbent accepts full responsibility for the entire production responsibilities of the Biomedical Engineering Unit as well as managerial responsibilities. He/she distributes work load, assigns priorities, performs independent assessments and analyses and recommends policy changes. Reviews training needs of subordinates constantly and makes recommendations for off-station training, as required and/or provides in0service training deemed necessary for the improvement of his/her work force. Estimates the budget, manpower and contract needs of the unit.
