Job Description:
Demonstrates leadership in delivering and improving holistic care through collaborative strategies with others. The Nurse Manager assumes a continuous responsibility for planning, coordinating, directing, controlling, and evaluating activities that maintain, support, and facilitates the nursing process. Uses expert clinical judgment in the delivery of care to complex and specialized patient population resulting in a positive impact/improvement across the organization. Guides staff in the implementation of the nursing process and evaluation of patient care outcomes. Evaluates the need for new equipment and plans for future equipment and space needs on the unit. Explores and evaluates equipment options and completes preparation of required request. Based on professional standards, structures a plan to meet identified learning needs and evaluates outcomes at the organizational level. Collaborates with other healthcare providers and caregivers and uses group process for decision-making in interdisciplinary problem solving. Qualifications: Citizenship Citizen of the United States. (Non-citizens may be appointed when no qualified citizens are available in accordance with regulations issued by the Under Secretary for Health or designee. Licensure: Active, full, current and unrestricted licensure as a Graduate Professional Nurse in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), if the United States or the District of Columbia. The RN must maintain a current, full, active and unrestricted registration to continue employment with VA. Physical Standards/Requirements: See VA Handbook 5005, Part III, Chapter 2, paragraph 7, and VA Handbook 5019, Occupational Health Services. All applicants must be physically and mentally able to perform efficiently the duties of the position. English Language Proficiency: Applicant must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and 7407 (d).
