Associate Director Business Development
Tasks will primarily be in support of senior management and will entail such activities as:
Screening potential business partners and products Coordinating due diligence of licensing opportunities Conducting corporate visits Product/market financial modeling Negotiation support Contract review and internal cross functional communication Strong communication and project leadership skills needed Define decision processes, manage groups and execute plans on rigid timetables are essential A thorough understanding of financial evaluation techniques (especially forecasting, pro-forma product P&L modeling, cost analysis and probability adjusted NPV’s) is essential Participate in corporate strategy development and negotiation strategies primarily by providing information and insight from above activities Initiate, monitor and analyze financial, technological and customer need factors so that market opportunities may be capitalized on and the effects of competitive activity may be minimized Initiate, implement and communicate regular competitive analyses for all relevant areas of the business and recommend appropriate corporate responses to this information A broad business understanding and the ability to coordinate cross functionally is essential
Job Requirements: Knowledge and Skills:
Masters Business Administration (MBA) Required BS in the life science or engineering field preferable Minimum 5 years experience working for a pharmaceutical/biotech company in a business development capacity Ability to make professional and credible first impressions with external customers, maintain strong interpersonal skills with both internal and external customers and respond effectively to sensitive inquiries and complaints Ability to write clear, succinct and convincing memos, letters and articles Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management and large groups Ability to perform complex financial calculations such as product forecasting, pro-forma product P&L modeling, Probability Adjusted Net Present Value, Internal Rate of Return, etc. Ability to apply principles of logic or scientific thinking to a wide range of complex intellectual and practical problems Ability to understand scientific concepts and to analyze unrelated and sometimes incomplete data to make significant judgments about the company Understanding of computers and the ability to use software for spreadsheet analysis, word processing, electronic mail and presentations graphics are essential The ability to influence others in a tactful and well thought-out manner with supporting information and logic Comfort interacting with the highest levels of senior management both within the company and at other organizations
