Employer Name: PublicinterestCrossing SpiderID: 2355382
Location: Baltimore, Maryland Date Posted: 7/9/2008

Job Code: 6219136

Job Description:
The economic downturn will mean even tighter budgets and even more strain on available resources in the upcoming years. Great kids attend these schools and they deserve more. There has never been a greater need for volunteer and outside community support in our public schools - and many people in our community are passionate about helping our children complete their education and prepare for sustainable, productive employment in the years to come. Business Volunteers Unlimited Maryland (BVU) helps communities and businesses get involved . BVU works to make a difference in strengthening communities by inspiring volunteerism and connecting motivated people and businesses to nonprofit organizations. In this newly created position of Community Outreach Manager - School Partnerships, you will be working closely with school principals and other education leaders to match their diverse needs with businesses who want to help. In this independent and highly collaborative role, you will report to the Executive Director and work in partnership with our six-member team . Each person in our organization has a specific focus to increase volunteerism for Baltimore; your focus will be bridging the volunteer needs of the schools with our business members and other local businesses. In your first year, we anticipate you will create 20 new school & business partnerships. School & business partnerships are an excellent opportunity for businesses to: share with schools their best practices, provide much needed financial and human resource support, and create meaningful, ongoing relationships. These innovative partnerships vary widely depending on the needs of the school and the resources of the business. Examples include: mentoring and reading programs, accounting and financial service workshops, organizing debate teams, building art rooms, career and college preparation workshops, job shadowing, or presentations covering a broad range of career options. You will also develop other creative opportunities as you identify new ways to best bridge the needs to the resources.
