Job Description:
POSITION PURPOSE Responsible for strategizing and implementing a cost effective and successful process to manage Hospital Professional Liability (HPL), General Liability (GL) and Employment Practices Liability (EPL) claims and litigation. Designs and directs the claim investigation process, evaluates claim with respect to liability, causation and damages, develops a resolution strategy, and fairly and equitably resolve the claim or litigation. Activities will directly impact on the management and prevention of claims and lawsuits; HPL, GL and EPL insurance premiums and funding requirements; the amount incurred annually for claim handling and litigation expenses, and on the corporate assets and the self-insured trust. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS A four-year undergraduate degree required. A clinical health care degree, preferably nursing, is desirable. A graduate degree in law or hospital administration also preferred. Six years of experience as a hospital or medical liability claims professional adjustor or equivalent experience as a defense malpractice attorney and/or six years experience in a health care organization with increasing responsibility in risk prevention, risk management, and/or quality management with progressive achievement. Experience as a risk management professional in a variety of settings, i.e., acute care, long term care, home care, and/or ambulatory care setting. Advanced knowledge and working relationships in risk management, claims management, quality management and improvement, insurance, safety, credentialing and privileging, and legal/ethical issues. Extensive contact with professional organizations and societies in these areas. Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, organizational, planning skills and the ability to work with and communicate with all levels of the organization. Excellent written, verbal, negotiation and formal presentation skills. Experience with statistical analysis and interpretation of data. Ability to train and develop staff members and business unit personnel. Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.
