EDUCATION REQUIREMENT :Equivalent to graduation from high school.EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT :Construction Inspector Aid : Six months experience as a Construction Inspector Trainee or two years journey level experience in any skilled construction trade.Asst Construction Inspector : One year of experience in inspecting or supervising construction work.Construction Inspector : Two years of experience in inspecting or supervising construction work.Such experience must have demonstrated knowledge of the methods and practices used in the construction of projects such as highways, streets, roads, pavements, sidewalks, curbs, gutters, storm drains, sanitary sewers, catch basins, concrete bridges, footings, pipelines, excavations and retaining walls; and the ability to read and interpret civil plans and specifications for a variety of construction projects; determine quality of materials and workmanship through inspection and determine compliance with specifications; observe good construction practices and recognize deviations therefrom; keep records; and prepare reports.Examples of Qualifying Experience Inspectors, superintendents, trades supervisors, working trade supervisors and technicians that perform testing and analysis of soils and materials for engineering and heavy construction projects.Substitution :Any one of the following will substitute for up to two years of the required experience: 1. An Associate degree in architectural or engineering drafting from an accredited college or university; or in the Applied Trades, Architectural, Engineering and CAD Technologies, and Carpentry Technology programs at Honolulu Community College, or similar academic programs from an accredited college or university.
