Job Description:
Sykes Enterprises, Incorporated is looking for a Project Manager to fill a requirement at a customer site in Groton, CT. This is an assignment through November 2008.
Position Title: Agile Coach/Mentor
Position Purpose
The successful candidate will fill the role of Agile coach to a cross-functional team chartered with the establishment of best practices for end-to-end Agile software development methodology in Research and Development Informatics.
Achieving this will require the candidate to apply his extensive experience and expertise in establishing and executing Agile practices in other large corporations to:
- Assess the current experiences with Agile in the R&D environment
- Identify barriers, gaps and challenges across processes and roles that need to be addressed
- Develop recommendations for future state Agile processes and practices

- Transfer knowledge to the team
Specific Duties
- Work with core stakeholders to assess the current environment and identify those barriers and challenges in people, process, tools and operating model that will need to be addressed to implement effective Agile practices in software development.
- This will include getting feedback from teams that have or are currently attempting to use Agile and will also include identification of significant interdependencies and risks.
- Make recommendations for a robust Agile processes, practices, definitions, performance standards, operating model, etc
- This will include common Agile principles and definitions; recommendations to cover gaps and challenges addressed above; and recommendations for which types of Agile to use for which types of projects.
- Recommendations will also include activities to address all key team roles on an Agile project (Tech Lead, Developer, Business Analyst, Project Manager, Tester, etc.)
- Finally, the recommended practice will need to work in a shared services environment and integrate with the project tracking tools
- Pilot those practices in selected teams where feasible and measure and track results
- Refine recommendations for processes, practices, standards, definitions, operating model based on the results of the pilot
- Define an implementation plan that operationalizes the needed practices, operating models, roles and competencies into the ELC framework and establishes the ongoing feedback mechanism
- Transfer knowledge to the team

Job Requirements:
Training & Education Preferred
- B.S. or B.A. degree in computer science or related discipline a plus.
- Formal training and demonstrated proficiency in Agile software development and continuous improvement methods.
- Formal training in software development, project management, quality assurance, or business analysis.
Prior Experience Preferred
- More than 10 yearsˇ¦ experience in the software industry with experience in the full lifecycle of software development. Well versed in software development lifecycle practices and roles
- 7-10 years of experience in project delivery successes (Agile, as well as traditional) on project teams.
- Extensive experience in executing Agile in large corporations and on large global, multi-site projects
- Extensive experience in designing, planning for and implementing Agile practice and processes in large corporations. This also includes mentoring of the key roles involved in project delivery (Project Management, Business Analysis, Architecture, Testing, etc) and in identification and resolution of barriers that can occur in a large, shared services environment.
- Ability to rapidly build relationships across a complex set of stakeholders and communicate regularly with team members in many different roles and levels of seniority.
- Proven track record in driving change in a large organization.
- Pharmaceutical knowledge a plus but not required.
Competencies
Knowledge of Business Analysis Approaches and Techniques
Demonstrated competency in:
- Managing the overall Agile process, including change, throughout the project lifecycle.
- Knowledge of the different types of Agile approaches, when and how each is applied and what is required to make them successful
- Knowledge of basic and advanced business analysis artifacts required to drive an Agile development project (e.g., user stories, use cases, wireframes, and prototypes).
- Task and activity planning based on proven Agile principles (e.g., personas, user stories, iteration and release planning, velocity, defect measurement, etc.).
- Pre-project project analysis and the development of business cases, budgets, timelines, resource plans, etc.
Change Management
- Significant experience in driving change in large organizations
- Methods of overcoming change management challenges
Soft Skills
- Excellent planning and execution skills
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Organized and able to deal with multiple teams at one time
- Comfortable dealing with ambiguity
