Job Description:
Review and interpret prescriptions, compound and accurately dispense medication, while maintaining efficient workflow to provide timely delivery. Maintain inventory and record keeping for narcotics and similar drugs. Major Responsibilities: Works with Pharmacy technicians and pharmacists in performing the final check of filled prescriptions to ensure order accuracy and timely delivery. Ensures that implementation of cost containment strategies occurs on all dispensing and procurement activities. Reviews and approves prescriptions to be filled by pharmacy technicians according to State Board of Pharmacy regulations. Provides clinical expertise by responding to drug-related questions and concerns initiated by internal (Technicians, Pharmacists) and external customers. Works with medical providers in receiving and approving inbound phone orders. Works with patient medical information to conduct Drug Utilization Review (DUR) on all prescriptions, reviewing clinical edits to ensure no adverse drug interaction. Works with appropriate pharmacy technician in reconciling Controlled Substances Log(s) with inventory on hand and prescriptions dispensed to comply with state and federal regulations. Works with pharmacy management to provide guidance, direction and training to pharmacy associates, including scheduling, workflow, inventory control, etc.
