Job Description: Develops, coordinates, schedules, implements, supervises and evaluates a variety of recreational programs, activities, special events, staff, volunteers and facilities. Modifies programs based on the skills and abilities of the members. Responsible for hiring, training, scheduling, evaluating, supervising and discipling staff. Works with recreation staff to provide intergenerational programs. Evaluates assigned areas of the recreation programs and recommends areas for improvement. Maintains related records and statistics for programs and personnel. Instructs designed recreation classes according to program curriculum and philosophy and modifies it according to member skill and ability level. Supervises building and participants by enforcing program and building rules, regulations and procedures. Inspects the facilities daily for cleanliness and safety; assists with daily/weekly/annual cleaning. Responsible for the safety of self, staff, members, and volunteers. Responsible for the proper use and care of materials, equipment, and facilities used. Communicates openly and effectively with supervisor, co-workers, staff, members, parents, and volunteers in order to provide excellent customer service in a timely manner. Models appropriate behaviors for staff, members, and volunteers at all times. Handles complaints and disciplinary problems involving members and staff. Reports any changes, conflicts or unsafe circumstances to supervisor immediately. Prepares for publication of a variety of brochures, newsletters, calendars, letters, posters, press releases, flyers and related communications regarding recreation programs. Promotes use of community recreation facilities and activities through oral and written public relations efforts such as monthly news releases, monthly special event calendar, flyers, public speaking and presentations. Responsible for budget control in specific program area including staff hours and preparation of annual budget for specific program area. Monitors activities in and around Fitness Center to prevent injuries, accidents and responds to emergencies as necessary. Assist with the maintenance ofweight equipment, cardio machines, fitness equipment, and audio systems. Supervises the safety of the pools and hot tubs, including testing water quality and chemical balance, and monitoring pool equipment, and sub-contracting maintenance repair on equipment.
Job Requirements: Requires graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in recreation management, leisure studies, or related and increasingly responsible recreation management experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities; excellent leadership, team-building, problem-solving, communication skills; computer skills; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, program participants, and members. Work hours (e.g., 4 day work week) vary and will include evenings, weekends & some holidays. Exempt employees are compensated with holiday pay.
