The Assistant Chief, Pharmacy Service is responsible for providing leadership, direction, organization, planning and implementation of pharmacy programs and services for the Richmond Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center (RVAMC). The RVAMC is a tertiary care facility affiliated with the VCU health system. As an affiliate, RVAMC is also a teaching facility. Programs include Medical, Surgical, Polytrauma, Substance Abuse, Spinal Cord Injury, Long Term Care, Hospice, Rehabilitation, Women's Clinic, Primary Care, Geriatric care, Home based Primary Care, and a number of sub-specialty clinics as well as community based outpatient clinic located in Fredericksburg and Charlottesville. The incumbent assures quality pharmaceutical care within the pharmacy programs offered at the medical center as well as the community based outpatient clinics, with particular emphasis on managing performance improvement initiatives. The Pharmacy Service is staffed with, 3 pharmacy residents, and rotational clerkship students. Directly supervisors the Inpatient Pharmacist Supervisor, Outpatient Pharmacist Supervisor, Narcotics/Chemotherapy Pharmacist Supervisor, Lead Clinical Pharmacist, Procurement Pharmacist, and Program Manager. Coordinates the development of and maintains an effective personnel evaluation program, including staff competencies. Coordinates the maintenance of a Medical Center Drug Formulary in accordance with VHA and VISN policies and regulations. Ensures compliance with all VHA and VISN directives and guidelines concerning the Drug Formulary. Coordinates the development of monitors for continuous quality improvement and medication usage evaluation under The Joint Commission.
