Vice President (Requisition # Not Listed) Public Citizen, the nationally recognized consumer protection and government oversight non-profit organization, seeks a big-picture thinker with the ability to translate innovative concepts into action plans to fill the newly created position of Vice President. The VP will ensure the seamless flow of energy, talent, and knowledge within the organization to create synergies that strengthen Public Citizen's mission, effectiveness and reputation and position the organization for a vibrant future. Reporting directly to the President, the Vice President will be responsible for helping to create organizational development strategy and action plans; cultivating and soliciting major gifts; envisioning ways to coordinate programmatic work across projects and groups to amplify the organization's achievements; and overseeing new initiatives that will ensure Public Citizen's growing effectiveness. Working closely with the President, COO, and group Directors, the VP will develop and manage a long-range agenda that builds the capacity of the organization for future success, including facilitating strategic planning discussions among the senior management team, enhancing fund-raising strategy, creating organizational development action plans , evaluating new initiatives, tracking related projects, advising the President as to project status, and assisting in shaping and implementing a sound organizational structure that ensures effective management and provides for responsible management succession. The VP will also assist the President in all phases of board expansion and development and coordination of preparation for Board meetings to help enhance board commitment and engagement in Public Citizen's success. Requirements: 1. Education: College degree required. Advanced degree in law or management strongly preferred. Equivalent experience may be substituted. 2. Knowledge: Understanding of the importance of new technologies and a Web presence for reaching new audiences to build the organization's financial success and support our programmatic reach. Knowledge of fundraising methodologies, management models, Public Citizen issues, and congressional procedures and non-profit legal requirements. 3. Work experience: At least ten years of experience in the administration of a multimillion-dollar nonprofit organization, with particular expertise in fundraising. 4. Skills: The skill, presence, confidence, and ability to challenge, change and strengthen all levels of internal and external relationships. Strong management and supervisory skills; ability to lead diverse groups to consensus and cooperation; excellent verbal and written communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills
