Job Description:

The incumbent serves as a Senior Resident Engineer (SRE) responsible for the management of major on-site construction of VA facilities within the Office of Construction & Facilities Management (CFM), Department of Veterans Affairs, Office of the Secretary. The incumbent manages a staff of engineers of varying engineering disciplines in the administration of construction activities protecting the VA's interests in monitoring on-site construction and ensuring that the turn-key project is safe, efficient and adequate to accomplish and carry out services to veterans nationwide. In addition, the incumbent performs the following duties and responsibilities: Leads a team comprised of a matrix of engineers and architectural specialties responsible for review of construction documents an contract specification for compliance with VA criteria, standards and all federal and local building codes; conducts reviews of contractor's cost breakdown and reviews submittals on contractor's proposed equipment and materials; reviews change orders and supplemental agreements for contract compliance; coordinates the various phases of construction with facility director and staff to minimize disruption to ongoing hospital activities and for overall patient and worker safety; monitors customer satisfaction through informal and formal means, including weekly meetings with Director regarding construction progress.
