Job Description:
Two positions available: Under the general direction of the Medical Record Director (MRD) or other headquarters designee of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), Division of Correctional Health Care Services (DCHCS); the Health Record Technician (HRT) II (Supervisor) will be responsible for day to day operations of the centralized Health Record Center (HRC) established to departmental house Unit Health Records (UHRs) for paroled and discharged offenders. Incumbent will supervise the work of subordinate staff performing a wide range of technical and clerical functions related to the management, maintenance and control of both hard copy and digital departmental offender health information. Plan, direct and monitor the daily work of subordinate HRC clerical and technical staff performing health information functions such as: file room and file maintenance, release of health information, health record processing, records transfer, health information coding and interpretation, concurrent simple analysis of health records, and preparation and dissemination of statistical reports, etc. Ensure completeness, accuracy, safekeeping, and availability of designated departmental health records; and take responsibility for records audits, general storage and retention processes. Maintain a safe and secure environment by following all safety precautions; reporting unsafe equipment or situations; and having knowledge of emergency/fire/other health and safety procedures. Plan, organize, monitor and evaluate HRC operations to ensure that quality health record information is available to authorized users; and that departmental health records are maintained in compliance with State and Federal requirements, accepted health records standards; and CDCR/DCHCS policies and procedures. Conduct/provide training for health records and clerical staff that includes but is not limited to information about health record systems, release of health information, and retention/destruction of health records. Complete probationary performance reports, annual staff evaluations, and individual development plans for subordinate employees. Perform timekeeping activities. Attend and conduct meetings. Effectively contribute to departmental equal opportunity objectives. Perform other miscellaneous administrative support tasks. Assist in the processing of complex requests for release of health information. Act as a departmental liaison with departmental health care/other professionals, outside agencies, organizations and individuals. Participate on approved committees. Work on special projects/assignments when authorized. Position pending approval
