Over the past several years, the mental health of California citizens has become a prominent issue with the public, the Legislature and the Governor. Entrusted with leadership of the California mental health system, DMH is looking for talented people with experience to join our growing professional team. We are seeking qualified candidates currently at the SSM II level, or SSM-II list eligible, with experience in developing a state department-wide budget. At least one year of state supervisory experience is required, preferably in a state budget office. Under the general direction of the Chief of the Fiscal Policy Branch (Staff Services Manager III), the SSM II will: * Supervise two SSM I supervisors; * Indirectly supervise a team of eight budget analysts; * Oversee and coordinate the development and preparation of each departmental program/organization budget, which includes analysis of budget change proposals, legislation, issue memos, and any other proposals for each program. * Assist in the presentation and communication, both verbally and in writing, of the various products of the Budget Section. * Provide quality customer service and meet goals in a timely manner. * Communicate with department staff at all levels, as well as the staffs of the Health and Human Services Agency, the Department of Finance, the Legislative Analyst\'s Office, and the Legislature. * Track and apprise executive staff on the status of all budget matters.
