Job Description:
The Educational Alliance, a 501(c) (3) nonprofit located in lower Manhattan, seeks an experienced and motivated residential counselor for our community residence for 24 men and women who carry primary diagnosis of mental illness and chemical dependency. This talented Human Service professional will monitor residents\' activities of daily living; participate in development and implementation of treatment plans; conduct group and individual counseling sessions with residents. The Counselor in this hands-on position will also participate in crisis interventions, maintain records, monitor and coordinate resident\'s attendance of medical appointments, trips, vocational and recreational activities as well as escort clients if needed. The goal of our program is to provide a safe haven in which our clients may learn how to deal with the many problems related to chemical dependency, and develop the skills necessary to allow them to function as valuable members of the community. Additional Qualifications: High School diploma or equivalent required, CASAC or CASAC -T and one (1) year of related work experience in MICA/Substance Abuse setting preferred. Degree in a related field (social work/psychology) a definite plus. Overnight and weekend availability required.
