Job Description:
DESCRIPTION:
Comprehensive knowledge and experience in design & support of low level fault tolerant firmware, programming for real time OS, and control systems design. Provide technical direction and guidance to other developers. Develop corresponding documentation and handle full life cycle software development responsibility. Requirements include Masters in Computer Science or equivalent experience; minimum 5+ years direct software design experience; minimum 5+ years tools experience using real time development environment; Preferred supplemental tools experience with Linux, pSOS, VxWorks, Tornado IDE, Perforce SW CM, or equivalents.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
• Bachelors in CS or EE (MS preferred) or equivalent experience
• Minimum 5+ years doing software design from requirements, detailed design, SW simulations, prototype testing for verification/correction to final design release.
• Minimum 5+ years tools experience using software development tools and RTOS toolkits.
• C/C++ Software Development
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Develop subsystem requirements, design, code, test and document software components for real-time environments, including coordination and delivery of requirements and design reviews.
• Interpret system level requirements and develop corresponding software requirements
• Draft design documentation, interface specifications and unit testing plans.
• Coordinate with technical team members for requirements and design reviews.
• Integrate with corporate software assets and test for product behavior conformance
• Perform and/or coordinate software integration testing
• Debug problems using standard debugging equipment and toolkits
• Lead development efforts of junior engineers and be responsible for subsystem architecture and maintenance.
• Attend meetings, report progress, and take technical leadership to troubleshoot and fix defects.
• Provide guidance and mentoring for junior engineers hired into the team who may be tasked to perform some of the above duties.
• Help investigate and collect information to resolve process or design issues found on a current design or in previous designs
Job Requirements:
SKILLS:
• Embedded Software Development and Debugging
• Understanding of Software Architectures
• Real-Time Software Development
• Experience with development on Linux operating system
• Solid experience in network and communications systems
• Experience with DSP and Microcontroller development
• Experienced in driver-level development, control algorithms and state machine design/implementation
• Ability to understand CPU Hardware architectures, Hardware Functional Specifications and Hardware Timing Diagrams
• Skills in software design/implementation/testing from understanding of Hardware Functional specification.
• Ability to use logic analyzer and oscilloscopes to debug low-level problems associated with hardware/software interactions, and isolate problems to hardware or software
• Demonstrated commitment to supporting software development lifecycle
• Knowledge of Telecommunications Systems
• Knowledge with digital and analog communication methods including RS232/485, T1/E1, Ethernet, GbE, 10GbE, DS3, SONET/SDH, ATM, ESCON, FICON, Fibre Channel, and/or other storage area network protocols.
• Ability to resolve complex issues that may require design trade-offs.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong knowledge of using software tools for analysis, development, testing, and debug.
DESIRED SKILLS:
• Must be able to travel to United States or Canada for extended periods of time (up to 3 months) with advanced notice
• Independent self starter and committed to delivering on aggressive deadlines.
• Comfortable in a team environment with ability to lead or to work with little supervision
• Appreciation of Software Development Methodologies
• Familiarity with source management systems such as Perforce, ClearCase, etc.
