Job Description:
Department of Bioinformatics and provide the leadership and vision that will enable us to optimally leverage bioinformatics in genomic-era drug discovery. The successful candidate will have a strong biology background and a proven record in managing and delivering computational biology projects. The Bioinformatics Group currently includes molecular biologists, application developers and database administrators. Areas of interest include the analysis of genomic data, gene expression, whole genome association studies, DNA and protein sequence database management and overall bioinformatics architecture and integration. Requirements The interdisciplinary nature of bioinformatics requires a solid foundation in both biology and information technology. The Director of this group should have a Ph.D. in a computational science field (e.g. Mathematics or Statistics), or a life science field (e.g. Molecular Biology or Cell Biology) with extensive experience in bioinformatics, including a successful track record of management and development. Experience in the drug development industry (biotech or pharmaceutical) is highly preferred. Genentech is committed to the innovative use of genomics technologies for drug discovery and development, therefore the Director must have the ability to play a key role in extending this capability.
