Performs a variety of tasks of increasing complexity and responsibility in locating and uncovering shallow sewers using jack?hammer, pick and shovel; learns correct procedures of shoring; adjusts structures to grade; repairs and replaces broken sewer pipe; mixes mortar and concrete; does manual backfilling; assists in restoring concrete or asphalt pavements damaged by excavations; repairs and/or replaces fences, landscaping, trees, shrubbery and sod, etc; meets requirements of the training program as set forth by the Collection Systems Operator Trainee?Construction Program Policy and Procedure Manual.Additional Responsibilities: May operate various motor vehicles, pumps and other power driven equipment; may perform related work as required or as delegated by supervisors. Minimum Qualifications: Suggested Training and Experience: Graduation from high school or equivalent; no experience is required.Desirable Knowledge Skills and Abilities: Ability to perform heavy manual labor; ability to work outdoors in all kinds of weather; ability to understand and follow oral or written instructions; ability to use simple hand tools and equipment; ability to secure a Commercial Driver's License and to operate a limited variety of other mechanical equipment; ability to prepare simple records and reports; ability to read.
