Job Description:
Major Duties: Incumbent is responsible for inspecting and overseeing contractor operations and work product, methods, and materials for compliance with plans, specifications, and reference standards standards for construction of features including excavation, embankment construction, backfill, reinforced concrete, post-tensioned concrete, asphalt paving, mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation equipment, related appurtenance facilities, rock stabilization, foundation treatments such as grouting, and concrete placement for outlet works. Coordinates the field work of materials technicians, surveyors, geologists, and cultural resource and environmental specialists with the activities of the contractor for assigned contracts or portions of contracts. Conducts or verifies the basic construction materials testing methods performed on concrete, soils, asphalt, aggregates, and coating systems are performed to assure quality of construction. Observes and investigates construction at the various stages to identify problems, report potential problems, and to recommend solutions to problems to supervisor or shift lead. Interprets drawings and specifications to ensure contractor compliance and initiates and recommends solutions to those problems which do not alter the basic design or involve additional costs to the Government.
