Thorough understanding of financial and business concepts and models Competencies: Knows the business and the mission-critical technical and functional skills needed to do the job; understands various types of business propositions and understands how businesses operate in general; learns new methods and technologies easily Qualified candidate for this key position will therefore need to demonstrate the following critical competencies: Extensive Deal Experience: The successful candidate will have significant experience in structuring, negotiating, and closing a variety of large and complex corporate and business development transactions. This would ideally include licensing agreements, joint ventures, and strategic alliances. This set of experiences must be from the life sciences industry. Business Acumen/Financial Savvy: The successful candidate will have a well-rounded, practical business outlook that enables him/her to balance concepts and initiatives with practical operating necessities. He/she will have good business judgment and instincts when assessing business development opportunities. At a more detailed level, he/she will be well-versed in business valuation methodologies and be aware of the accounting, tax and balance sheet implications of different deal structures across equity investments, royalty payments, and other means of value creation. Strategic Aptitude: The successful candidate will have a demonstrated record of quickly becoming knowledgeable about strategic trends in the industry and in assessing the strengths and weaknesses of the various strategic partners.
