The following example describes Claim Analytics¿ significant contribution to the overall organization and highlights the type of analysis the Business Analytics role would focus on: The Claim Analytics team was asked to look at the impact of attorney involvement on a claim¿s severity. The Claim Analytics team predicted that reducing attorney involvement also reduced overall severity of a claim, so their first task was to support their hypothesis using both industry and internal claim data. When the CA team found that the data supported their assumption, they then made recommendations to Travelers senior management as to the most efficient ways to reduce attorney involvement per claim. One of those recommendations was to handle the toughest claims face-to-face versus over the phone.
