Job Description:

Job Summary: Under the direction of the Business Unit Leader, welds metal parts on production line; welds metal components together to fabricate or repair products according to layouts, blueprints, or work orders, using brazing, open root tig and welding equipment. Essential Functions:



  • Welds metal parts together, using gas welding and brazing processes.

  • May be required to use TIG, MIG and Stick processes.

  • Turns valves to release fuel gas and oxygen and ignites mixture, or inserts specified weld rod into portable holder, clamps cable onto work piece or jig.

  • Requires knowledge of oxyacetylene set up and shut down.

  • Guides electrodes, or torch and filler rod, along horizontal weld line at specified speed and angle to melt and deposit metal from filler rod or electrode onto work piece.

  • May skip (tack) weld designated spots to secure work pieces; fit up requirements.

  • Required to use different equipment and may be designated production line welder.

  • Welds light gauge and heavy metal parts together, using GTAW, GMAW, SMAW & Brazing.

  • May require ASME certifications. Additional Responsibilities:

  • Required to pass employer performance tests or standard tests to meet certification standards of governmental agencies or professional and technical associations.

  • Support of and involvement in company, department, and/or safety policies, procedures, programs and activities.

  • Maintenance of a clean and orderly work area.


Job Requirements:

  • One year certificate from college or technical school; or a combination of six months to one year of related training and/or experience.

  • Knowledge of a wide variety of weld methods and equipment, safety requirements and ability to perform complex shop mathematics.

  • GTAW, GMAW, SMAW & Brazing experience and familiarity. Pressure vessel, piping, pump, fluid transfer, heat transfer design experience.

  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as heavy equipment manufacturing, welding technology, control panel, materials technology, manufacturing methods technology.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, work instructions, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Good verbal and written communication skills are necessary.

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, proportions, and decimals; use of tape measure.

  • Ability and understanding of various measuring devices in meeting drawing dimensions and specifications.

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Certificates:



  • Forklift and overhead crane certification may be required for this position.

  • Company specific ASME weld certifications may be required for this position depending on level and area.
