Job Description:
Our busy 350 room property in Midtown is seeking a hands on experienced individual as a Chief Engineer. The Chief Engineer's duties are as follows.Conducts walk-throughs to visually and physically assess the safe and efficient maintenance and operation of the physical structure of the hotel, all mechanical, electrical, H.V.A.C, Fire SafetySystems, and any other related equipment. Assigns and verifies completion of all routine maintenance on guest rooms, public spaces both indoor and outdoor, as well as back of the house spaces. Assigns and verifies completion of all repair and replacement projects to public, guest rooms, and back of house areas. Trains, supervises, allocates personnel, communicates departmental/individual job goals and criteria's of job performance, appraises, and if necessary disciplines engineering department staff.Informs Managing Director and hotel department heads, on a regular basis, regarding the specific and overall condition of the building structure(s), related systems and equipment offering prudent and cost-effective proposals for maintaining the same. Adheres to all Corporate required budgets, purchasing policies and controls, to include all outside contractor bids, and schedules. REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE: Minimum 5 years experience in hotel maintenance / engineering with at least 2 years experience in a management role High school graduate and trade school certification Current certification as required by Federal, State or Local governing agents pertaining to trade requirements (i.e. HVAC, electrical, fire safety, standpipe,) Current certification and licensing to operate and repair the hotel's boilers, HVAC, and Fire Safety Systems as required by New York Union experience preferred Experience in developing and training staff Ability to understand written and verbal instructions and to communicate effectively in the primary language used in the workplace Excellent health and safety standards Excellent communication skills both written and verbal Must have a Hands On mentality.
