Job Description:
We are seeking a service oriented individual to become a Bioinformatics Support Manager providing sophisticated scientific consultation, data analysis capabilities, project leadership, and Bioinformatics application support for its Crop Genetics Research program. This position is based in Wilmington, DE, and reports to the hiring manager in Johnston, IA. Duties/Responsibilities The successful candidate will foster and maintain professional relationships with Research staff, seeking to understand their current and potential Bioinformatics needs, and effectively communicating the urgency and impact of these needs to key stakeholders. This position will contribute to research projects through ad-hoc Bioinformatics analyses as well as leading multi-disciplinary project teams responsible for the design, development and deployment of Bioinformatics solutions. The successful candidate will work closely with both Delaware and Iowa based Information Management (IM) staff to help define and implement Client Support processes specific to the Wilmington research organization. The incumbent will also help coordinate implementation of enterprise-wide IM initiatives across geographic locations and ensure alignment of Bioinformatics efforts with Research and IM objectives. Educational Qualifications Desired A Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Genetics, Plant Biology, or a related field with 3+ years of post-degree experience is required. Competencies and Experience Desired The successful candidate will enjoy working and communicating with others and have demonstrated success working both independently and in a team environment; proven success in managing complex informatics projects is highly desirable. Excellent problem solving and interpersonal skills are crucial, and the successful candidate must have superior written and verbal communications skills. Although not required for this position, demonstrated experience in team leadership and personnel management is desirable. Demonstrable experience in the fields of Bioinformatics and Genomics research is required; industrial research experience in crop or plant biotechnology is highly preferred. Excellent knowledge of the latest bioinformatics methods, tools, and databases is essential, and demonstrated skills in both Windows and UNIX environments are required. Proficiency with a variety of data management and analysis tools such as Perl, Excel, SQL and Spotfire is necessary; other software development skills would also be beneficial.
