Job Description:
The successful candidate will enjoy working in an innovative environment which appreciates the contributions of values based service delivery approaches for the sake of continually increasing quality of life for our current and future residents. The Director is a department head level position and reports to the City Manager. The Director is responsible for a variety of development related activities, including coordinating and performing plan review, interfacing with the land development community, managing building permitting and inspections activities, and serving as a liaison to development related board and commissions including the Planning and Zoning Commission. The work will require a working technical knowledge of local government principles, municipal planning and design, strategic planning, site plan review, Texas land use law, zoning ordinance. However, the position will require a proficiency in communicating and working with a wide variety of people to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes based in community values. Requirements for the position include a high level of character and personal and professional integrity. In addition, the successful candidate will hold a Bachelor degree in planning, architecture, public administration, or a related field and a minimum of five years of progressively responsible planning and/or community development positions.
