Job Description:
Responsibilities: Teach construction skills including demolition, framing, interior and exterior finish work etc.; and the appropriate use of equipment and tools through demonstrations, modeling skills and supervising Teach safe procedures for use and handling of equipment, tools and cleaning up of the construction area through demonstrations, modeling appropriate procedures and supervising. Teach appropriate ways to handle technical construction problems arising at the job site through demonstrations, modeling and supervision. Keep construction manager and other staff informed about issues that arise at the job site; participate in regular team reviews of trainees. Assist in personal and vocational counseling and the development of trainees\' leadership skills in conjunction with other Youth Build staff. Implement attendance policies and procedures consistently at the site. Work as a member of the total team, integrating site learning with academic learning as appropriate. Keep individuals focused on a specific task and ensure its completion in a professional manner Implement and maintain a basic system of tool distribution, collection and organization Prepare trainees to enter job market and to assist in job placement where required. Assist in the maintenance and repair of the building, equipment, and vehicles related to and utilized in the execution of our primary function: construction. Interact with sub-contractors, inspectors, and visitors who may be involved with the project. Additional Qualifications: Journeyman level of building trades experience Five years of construction experience and some experience training others in the trade Ability to teach, lead, and relate to an inner city population of at-risk young people Valid driver\'s license and good driving record required Ability to read, interpret and explain blueprints or other construction-related instructions and directions Patience in organizing and channeling the work energy of a large, untrained, and undisciplined group.
