Job Description:
 A Fortune 500 company seeks a Systems Engineer with 6-8 years’ experience. The candidate will be responsible for maintaining multi-million dollar server based systems. This position routinely tracks utilization across all systems and implement capacity augmentations as needed. This role involves constant interaction with outside vendors and serves as a highest level of escalation. This position will also track and remediate server issues on a day to day basis as well as install software and system patches. Engineering and implementing portions of larger projects will also be an expectation of this position. Design,validate, and implement the integration of server hardware/software across multiple device types. Develop new approaches to business applications through the selection of complex technologies. Provides specialized support to the technical workforce for the remediation of difficult hardware and software issues. Typical production systems deliver services available to over 3 million homes passed. Provides operational support and demand maintenance to critical services 7x24x365. Collect and analyze network performance and resource utilization data. Generate reports, either manual or automated, for tracking performance and server system management. Develop major automated routines and utilities by writing software using advanced programming languages. The candidate should have Bachelor's degree in a computer related field from four-year college or university; 5+ years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. CCNA, MCDBA, MCSE and RHCE desirable. Should have experience: Supporting servers within a production system in a mission-critical 7x24 environment; programming and automating processes; configuring and supporting TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol). Should have 1-2 years’ experience: Simple Network Management Protocol (“SNMP”) and network management; project management experience. Should have programming experience, preferably with C, C++, Perl or Java. Experience with supporting NT, Windows 2000, Linux systems and Intel x86 hardware production systems in a mission-critical 7x24 environment is required. Must be willing to work variable shift hours and rotate on-call duties. Training in the fields of Microsoft NT 4.0 Server, Linux, Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) / Internet Protocol (IP), video distribution systems, multicast, MPEG streams and IP routing desirable.
