Job Description: The position is based in Edmonton and will support three major regional centres. It reports directly to the Senior Vice President, along with functional responsibility to the Divisional Financial Officer, both located in Edmonton. Your responsibilities will be as follows:
• Serve as a business partner in the provision of guidance, expertise and consultation to managers and employees, as a resource, coach and service provider. • There will be heavy emphasis on recruiting, and on the coaching and mentoring of line managers. You will coach and counsel leaders and employees regarding all Human Resources matters to ensure understanding and to alleviate problems before they arise. • Comprised of both junior and senior responsibilities, the position requires a candidate who is adaptable and flexible. You will partner with management to identify employee relations issues, provide recommendations and implement solutions. • Several of the duties and responsibilities will be of a project nature on a variety of human resources initiatives. • Design and ensure consistent implementation and interpretation of HR policies, practices and programs focusing on ensuring compliance with HR-related legislation. • These activities will be carried out in an environment that is informal, interactive and non-traditional in its approach. By design, the role demands that you are as comfortable “on the floor” as in the management board room.
Job Requirements: The Individual
• Must be a true human resources generalist with a sound business background. • A good coach and mentor of line managers, challenging them to find solutions to their particular human resource issues. • Must see the human resources department as a business partner and not as a policy enforcer. • Must be self-confident, willing to hear and seek out input from others, adaptable to change and make sound judgments about risks versus rewards. • Must possess critical thinking skills, be able to juggle tasks, “think on their feet”, and have the ingenuity to continually find better approaches to problems and issues. • A person with initiative who accepts accountability for projects. • An articulate, positive personality for effective interaction with customer groups. • Proven ability to design, develop and implement foundational HR programs and practices.
To summarize, you will lead and guide the Company in the following areas; developing and implementing human resource policies to meet organizational needs, oversee and participate in all processes pertaining to recruitment, retention, termination, promotions, compensation, benefits, payroll, employee relations, team enhancements, administration, facilities, talent management, performance reviews, safety, and workers’ compensation.
