Job Description:

Under general supervision, is responsible for the planning, cost estimating and execution of assigned new product and technical support projects; coordinates, designs and develops mechanical and electro-mechanical assemblies and components for major projects; and performs related duties as required.
Creates detailed mechanical designs for products as a response to established marketing requirements. Develops new concepts and creates layouts and detailed designs. Performs in-depth engineering analysis and calculations. Contributes innovations that satisfy customer needs and enable new market opportunities. Researches outside sources and evaluates and validates mechanical parts and materials from outside suppliers. Leads the building of engineering prototypes. Defines protocols and conducts the necessary testing required to validate the safety and effectiveness of the design(s). Approves mechanical documentation, specifications and drawings.

Executes large-scale scientific and/or engineering programs and initiates projects within existing programs. Manages problems and projects to ensure product performance, reliability and claim substantiation. Researches findings or recommendations that have a wide-scale affect on subsequent research or development. Opens new avenues for further study, and/or contributes significantly to the solution of important, applied problems. Makes required decisions or authoritative recommendations on all technical matters involved in the initiation and implementation of such programs to assure the results as expected.
The incumbent is able to quickly investigate and resolve technical problems in existing products, in both the manufacturing and field environment. Evaluates engineering change requests for feasibility, safety and effectiveness.
As an Engineer III, the incumbent will likely direct the work activity of one or more engineers, technicians, CAD designers, or machinists. The Engineer III should also provide technical guidance and mentoring to these associates.
Future projects are unknown in scope and complexity, but they are sure to be technically very challenging. This engineer must be well rounded and ready to tackle difficult and pioneering engineering problems.





Job Requirements:

B.S. minumum, M.S. or Ph. D. preferred in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field, supplemented by six years or more of progressively responsible work experience in engineering, prefer medical devices, but not necessary.
A gearhead and a tinkerer is preferred.
Thorough knowledge of mechanical engineering disciplines and state-of-the-art practices and techniques. Working knowledge of engineering materials, metal fabrication processes, assembly processes and design. Basic knowledge of other engineering disciplines. Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and ISO 13485 requirements, as they pertain to this position.
Ability to work well under pressure, handle multiple projects and meet deadlines. Ability to understand, evaluate and apply the knowledge of mechanical engineering disciplines, advanced principles, theories and concepts. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Proficient skill in engineering analysis and calculation. Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
Employment experience should show career progression and growth, with increasing responsibilities and varying technical challenges. Work experience must demonstrate that the incumbent has developed their technical skills through hands-on involvement with complex mechanical and electro-mechanical products.
The incumbent must have been a core team member on at least one development project within a multi-functional team which brought a new product to market.
Proven ability to design and engineer complex mechanical devices and systems.
Proficiency in computer aided design. Pro-E preferred but any CAD system is acceptable.
Proficiency in engineering analysis and experimentation, particularly in the areas of mechanics, dynamics, materials, and fluids.
Working knowledge of electronics and embedded software. This skill will be applied to designs of electro-mechanical systems and development and construction of R&D test apparatus.
Prior experience with gears, bearings, and rotating machinery is preferred but not required.
