Job Description: SUMMARY
This position will report to the Director of Technology to support Client's growing online publishing business. Job responsibilities include working within a team of engineers, content managers and product managers to develop features and processes to enhance Client’s online content offerings, build new products to increase sources of revenue and improve operations of the business. Responsibilities include helping to define technical requirements; estimating levels of effort; and designing, architecting and implementing innovative, robust and scalable products and processes that directly support the growth of Client’s content publishing business. The position requires a detailed knowledge of state of the art content management systems and processes, experience with web-based content delivery methods, and high level understanding of back-office data storage, transformation and delivery technologies for the Web and other emerging distribution channels.
Related Work Experience
3 or more years experience supporting online publishing services using LAMP technologies and multiple programming languages.
Formal Education or Equivalent
Bachelor’s degree and/or and advanced degree in computer science, information systems, or other relevant discipline.
Job Requirements: Skills
A strong understanding of Unix-based platforms and open source technologies, including Linux, Apache, Php, Perl PostgreSQL; and a working knowledge of Windows operating systems.
Demonstrated experience and deep technical understanding of XHTML, DHTML, XML, XSL, JavaScript/client side scripting technologies and cross-browser implications. Experience with AJAX and other next generation client-side technologies a plus.
Demonstrated working knowledge of Search Engine Optimization concepts and strategies.
Experience with publishing industry standard document publishing tools and formats, including Docbook, SGML, PDF, Quark; and designing document conversion processes suitable for publishing on the Web.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
* Collaborate with technical team members on enhancing, maintaining and improving the content management systems used by Client’s editorial staff; support development of processes to acquire and convert content from various formats into Client’s content management systems. * Assist in the creation and maintenance of interactive web applications using HTML, PHP, Perl, SQL, and related code, programs, servlets, applets, or interfaces as appropriate. * Collaborate with site managers, producers, and editors to design the navigation, categorization, and search functions of the site. * Recommend and add new interactive features to existing sites, tools, and services. * Articulate technical issues, assist in resolving problems, and provide sound architectural solutions. * Troubleshoot and debug problems, errors, and conditions related to applications and interfaces. * Provide timeline estimates and schedules for applications development and project-related tasks. * Provide status reports on development activities and project milestones. * Support applications testing and production implementations. * Assure compliance with engineering standards.
