Job Description:
 One of the leading educational publishers, publishing textbooks, instructional technology, and assessments seeks a Senior Software Engineer with 5-7 years of computer programming experience. Will work under the direct supervision of the director of application development. The candidate will be responsible for developing and maintaining the functionality, reliability and usability of multiple Enterprise web based systems. This individual will undertake a range of development and software engineering duties. Will participate in the planning, design, code modification and development of multiple web applications written using the J2EE framework. For these applications as well as any related applications, the senior software engineer is responsible for design, code development, unit testing, documentation and maintenance. Will be the key developer in any new eCommerce, college bookseller and consumer storefronts, college online catalog and other applicable enterprise web development initiatives. Will be responsible for ongoing maintenance and providing level 3-support to these applications. Will be accountable to improve the stability of the existing framework by adopting best practices and industry standard open source tools. Devises or modifies procedures to solve complex problems considering operating and application system limitations, user requirements, and form of desired results. Includes analysis of business and user needs, documenting requirements, and revising existing application code as necessary. Will work with the QA team to support QA activities on initiatives. Work with extended Operational and App Support teams to assist in performing deployment and support activities. The preferred candidate should have B.A. or B.S. in computer science. Should have solid experience with the following technical skills: Expertise in developing applications based on J2EE components (EJB, Servlet, Java Beans and JSP) and J2EE standard services (HTTP/HTTPS, JDBC, JNDI, JavaMail, JAXP, JMS). Should have experience with BEA Weblogic Application Server and EJB 2.0. Performance tuning of enterprise applications. Experience with Open source frameworks like ANT, Struts, Hibernate is required. A thorough understanding of object oriented analysis and design methodologies and proficiency in the application of UML in the design of complex, enterprise wide applications is required. Solid understanding of relational database concepts and strong SQL skills are essential. Experience with Oracle is necessary. Must be proficient with Unix and Windows operating systems.
