Job Description:
This position will be located in the Corporate Division. Corporate Provides centralized service and support to the AEGON USA operating companies. Services units include corporate accounting, actuarial, audit, benefits, business development, compliance, information technology, law and tax.
The Corporate financial reporting area of AEGON USA is seeking a qualified candidate for a Senior Accountant opportunity. This position’s primary responsibility will be to provide accounting research and analysis services to support reporting activities of U.S. operations. This will include International accounting principles (IFRS), US GAAP as well as some involvement with U.S. Statutory accounting principles. This is a highly visible position and involves contact with most operating divisions of the company. The Corporate financial reporting area is a fast-paced deadline driven environment offering challenging opportunities for professional growth.
Under minimal direction, performs complex accounting functions. Utilizes general accounting and financial principles and techniques, and assists in obtaining, assembling, evaluating, interpreting, recording and analyzing financial data. Prepares financial reports and performs financial analysis.
Primary Duties Include:
* Provide accounting research and analysis services to support reporting activities of U.S. operations. This will include International accounting principles (IFRS), US GAAP as well as some involvement with U.S. Statutory accounting principles.
* Research accounting questions related to complex accounting transactions and issues.
* Proactively monitor and analyze new accounting pronouncements and exposure drafts.
* Prepare written summaries and provide support for training sessions on new accounting issues.
* Develop new financial footnote disclosures for external audited financial statements of various entities in the group.
* Develops nonstandard reports and statements. Prepares information for use by a higher authority; communicates methodology and areas of concern.
* Participates on project teams or leads project teams.
* Responsible for adherence to the company's framework of internal controls.
* Reviews and analyzes budget to actual variances and related operation reporting for Division managers.
* Assists with the preparation of the divisional budget.
* May be responsible for the quarterly and annual preparation and review of statutory financial reporting.
* May have supervisory responsibilities, or review work or train other accountants.
Job Requirements:
Bachelors degree in Accounting or equivalent work experience. Generally at least 4 years of experience, with degree. Solid knowledge of accounting area preferred (for example, investments, insurance products, premium, tax). CPA preferred.
Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing, ability to handle multiple projects, willingness to take on new projects, customer service approach. Work effectively individually and within a team, organizational and prioritization skills, effective judgment.
