Job Description: Excellent opportunity for a Research Associate I in the Predictive Toxicology Section of the Laboratory for Human Toxicology and Pharmacology (LHTP) to serve as primary support to the CFU-EM assay and organ slice systems. Position will support the ongoing projects of in vitro assay and model development for assessing the predicted human safety of new anticancer drugs. The job includes prolonged periods of phase-microscopy observations and tissue manipulations. Additional responsibilities include the compilation and reporting of scientific data to laboratory supervisors and/or at lab meetings. It is expected that exact and detailed records are kept in accordance with LHTP guidelines. Work may involve the use of potentially hazardous chemical, biological materials or may be located in areas where such materials are used. May require the use of personal protective equipment and adhere to strict safety protocols.

Job Requirements: Requirements include a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a field related to biomedical research or four (4) years related experience in lieu of degree Foreign educated candidates who have completed part or all of their education outside of the United States must have their foreign education evaluated by an SAIC-approved accrediting organization to assure that it has met the equivalency of the qualifications of degree work in the United States. Must have experience with cell/tissue culture systems (including sterile technique) as well as assays and their development in a biological lab setting. Ability to carry out a variety of diverse research procedures or tests of a highly specialized nature; apply routine algebraic formulae and statistical methods; perform exacting quality control tests; perform basic computer operations. Must have excellent eye-hand coordination; tissue culture and asceptic work experience, modify existing procedures based on experience; maintain high attention to detail over a several hour period and excellent communication and note-taking skills. Experience with basic laboratory techniques germane to processing specimens, growing cells/tissues, and cellular bioassays (i.e. ELISA, pipetting, balance use, centrifuge use, safety procedures, etc.) required. Must be able to maintain very flexible work hours including occasional weekends. This position is subject to obtaining a Public Trust Clearance.
