Job Description: Guiding children ages 4-12, in hands-on, environmental education activities. Working closely with the Naturalist team to plan and implement programs and activities. Create curriculum for one day of elementary camp. Occasionally monitoring the Before or Aftercamp program. Guide 8 10 children, ages 4-12, by yourself as they explore all areas of the park. Direct games and activities (including songs and art projects) for 8 60 campers. Maintain a safe, friendly and fun learning environment. Regularly team-teach with 6 other staff members and 4860 campers. Supervise, evaluate, and act as a positive role model for the Jr. Naturalist volunteers, ages 12-16. Ability to work, enjoy self, and campers, and keep high energy while exploring Discovery Park for long periods of time.
Job Requirements: Dates of Employment: May 27 - August 29, 2008 (July 2, 3, and 4-unpaid holidays) At least 1 year experience working with children, preferably in an outdoor setting. One year of college level education, preferably with course work in the natural sciences or education. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Valid WA drivers license and first aid/CPR certification by June 1, 2008. Commitment to work full season. Smiling team player.
