Job Description:
The Data Analyst AST serves as a data and reporting consultant to a variety of teams and individuals in support of their projects and/or educational needs. This position requires an understanding of confidentiality and privacy regulations. Additionally, this position is responsible for writing and producing reports where needed to support corporate quality initiatives and operational planning.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Data Analysis and Reporting:
- Queries and combines multiple databases from a variety of sources for use in reporting, research and to support decision-making.
- Works with Healthcare Improvement Division and regional staff to understand data storage and retrieval systems and to extract and combine data appropriately from patient databases and large national data sets to address both standard and ad hoc reporting needs.
- Uses appropriate software programs and tools, including statistical packages, to query, process, and analyze data.
-Develops tables, charts, and graphs for inclusion in reports and presentations as needed.
- Understand and use statistical process control tools appropriately.
- Provide clear and concise verbal presentations
- Partner with the AST Leadership Team, AST Staff, and the customer to:
- Identify and clarify customer needs
- Identify business definitions, business rules, information specifications and requirements to facilitate decision support.
- Provide interpretation of data (applying analysis to content areas)
- Working knowledge of DRGs, ICD-9, CPT coding
- Effectively and proactively manage and implement multiple projects simultaneously.
- Maintains a high level awareness and understanding of the role of regulatory agencies in regards to our work (benchmarking, data standards and criteria)
- Provides assistance troubleshooting Crystal reports and help desk support for Crystal end-users.


Job Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in a health care or health services research field with coursework in medical terminology, anatomy/physiology, statistics, health science research and computer science. Experience can be substituted for a Bachelor's degree.

One year of data analysis or two years Data Coordinator experience, including use of statistical methods.
- Ability to retrieve and display data in usable formats.
- Computer experience on a PC with database management and spreadsheet experience.
- Three years of experience in health care or health services research field preferred

Preferred
- Statistical and Reporting Software 'knowledge of MS Excel, MS Access, Statit, SPSS, and Crystal Reports.
- MS Excel ' creating graphs, formulas, and functions; spreadsheet formation with formulas inserted, retrieving/importing data from other sources, exporting data to other tools.
- MS Access - Importing data from other sources, linking to external data sources, creating tables, forms, queries, and reports; exporting data to other sources.
- SPSS - Importing data from other sources, exporting data to other sources, creating graphs, understanding of SPSS syntax, utilization of statistical tests and tools.
- Crystal Reports - Connecting to databases, joining tables, filtering the data, formatting, grouping, creating parameters, writing formulas, publishing to Infoview and scheduling
- Working knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server.
- Microsoft SQL - Use and understand the Query Analyzer and Enterprise Manager programs, write SQL statements to extract and integrate data, create stored procedures.
- Medical Terminology, Anatomy/Physiology or Physical Science
