Job Description: DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
The person in this position will manage the 2-person design team for a major, national, graphics-heavy test of English language proficiency for students in kindergarten through grade 12. Duties will include overseeing and supervising the production/design team to ensure the development of all text and graphics and the delivery of camera-ready test materials; managing the computerized test item bank—including its design, implementation, and upkeep—and training others to use the item bank; and managing the development and design of web-based training and professional development materials. The work will require substantial interaction with other program managers and supervision of a staff of 2 people.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage the development of camera-ready art for test booklets, scripts, test administration manuals, and other supporting materials Oversee the development of illustrations and graphics from externally contracted artists Supervise the activities of the design/production team Coordinate with test development manager and staff regarding production needs Develop and ensure implementation of production quality control procedures Manage the test item bank and training on its use Oversee the development of page layouts, templates, style sheets, and production style guides Develop and oversee content management systems, processes, and procedures Manage the design of web-based training and professional development materials for online delivery
Job Requirements: QUALIFICATIONS: Education: BA Degree, preferably in Communications, Graphic Design, or Liberal Arts. Masters a plus. A particular focus on production of educational materials or assessments also a plus.
Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years experience in design and development of print and web-based materials, preferably in the field of education. Management and supervisory experience strongly preferred. Familiarity with creating web-based learning environments a plus. Strong graphics and layout skills and experience using InDesign and other desktop publishing software a must. Experience using photo editing software is important as well as experience in data management, with a focus on content and quality control. Must have excellent English speaking and writing skills, Facility in communicating in a language other than English is a plus.
Personal Skills: Must be flexible, organized, attentive to detail, and have excellent interpersonal skills. Must be able to plan and negotiate multiple tasks running simultaneously. Must be willing to learn new software as required.
