Job Description:
Arranges for vehicles and equipment to be released from service for inspection, service or repair. Oversees the activities of subordinate workers engaged in the diagnosis, maintenance, repair and overhaul of vehicles and equipment. Monitors and evaluates work in progress for timeliness and quality of repair efforts. Assists in solving complex repairs. Trains workers by demonstrating repair and maintenance of vehicles and equipment using mechanic's hand tools. Inspects and certifies completed work to verify conformance to specifications and regulations. Participates in the technical analysis of new equipment and repair techniques. Records completed work assignments, maintains records, and prepares a variety of comprehensive reports. Supervises investigations of accidents to determine the cause and extent of damage to any segments of the maintenance systems. Contracts for specialized repair services or arranges for off-site repairs. Authorizes and arranges for purchase of unusual tools, parts, and equipment. Records expenses and analyzes purchase and repair costs to effectively control expenditures. Performs administrative supervisory responsibilities such as hire, train, motivate, evaluate, counsel, and discipline personnel. Resolves labor relations issues in accordance with labor contracts. Enforces departmental policies and procedures, and employee attendance. Minimum Qualifications Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
