Lead Developer- Java Software Engineer- Alexandria, VA 703, 571, 202, 301, 410
We are a fast growing Federal IT solutions and services firm with $40M revenue with core competencies in Digital Asset Management, system integration, software engineering, network engineering including IT security. We are seeking a rare person, a product champion who is passionate in a truly fundamental manner - about building software products that delight the customer and give competitors a reason to worry. The fact that we are in the processing of changing the industry is appealing to you.
The Ideal candidate:
• You have demonstrated experience building highly-scaleable software products that use custom hardware platform for video acquisition, processing, storage, and sophisticated reporting.
• You are proud of your work as a software engineer and a leader of a small team of individuals just like yourself. You can act as a complete solution owner and then lead a team to exceed expectations.
• The elegance, consistency, and clarity of your code can speak for you and separates you from everyone else.
• You believe in component-based architecture and continuously seek better ways to reuse existing code to accelerate the delivery of future functionality
• For you, multithreading, multiprocessing, event management, instrumentation, structured error localization / recovery, design patterns, synchronous and asynchronous transaction processing models ... are tools of the trade. You also think its fun!
• You are comfortable with more than one development approach and tool set.
• You are also very comfortable (can teach if needed) with all applicable terms and acronyms: Java, Swing, Spring, JavaServer Faces, J2EE, XML/XSLT, Enterprise Java Beans, video compression standards, Motion JPEG, MPEG4, streaming video.
• You are fundamentally committed to building robust, error-free software. Test-driven development techniques are among your tools of the trade.
• For you, the less data the better. You are an expert user of Oracle and PL-SQL and continuously look for opportunities to reduce the time it takes to retrieve data.
• Your have a strong bias towards performance and remain highly motivated to make continuous performance improvements.
• Last but not least – you believe in architecture which is flexible and can support the next several major product releases without major changes.
Can think, design, and code: full ownership of the idea-to-elegant and high performing code cycle
• Not afraid of complexity; will cheerfully prototype complex ideas and select appropriate path forward
• Very passionate about building Web based enterprise software products that create lasting value within a customer environment

Job Requirements:
Extreme care for customer pain and equally extreme focus on functionality as opposed to just code production (someone who waits for specifications and then codes would not be a good fit)
• Technology: Java, open source frameworks (Spring, Hibernate), JavaServer Faces is a plus
• Approach: methodical, superb problem solver, with consistent focus on optimization and performance improvement
• Techniques: continuous integration, automated testing, comfortable with agile development process (while not forgetting about sustainable architecture)
• Seasoned: went through at least one Release 1.0, 2.0 cycle; comfortable with refactoring at times
• Personal qualifications: excellent communicator / writer. We deal with complex topics; he / she must be able to absorb a lot of complexity and discuss these topics with ease
• US citizen or permanent resident

Compensation : This is a Pre IPO Software Company with a solid and substantial value proposition as well as a experienced leadership team. The package for this position is in the $130,000- $140,000 range with possible additional commission and options available later this year.
