Job Description:
Apply Online Purpose of Position This position provides support to the small construction crews of Northern Natural Gas engineering department through the delivery of parts and equipment to construction sites at company locations and provides general labor activities at the construction sites. Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Functions) Assist construction crews by providing labor on construction projects. This may include hauling materials and equipment by hand as well and transporting on vehicles; hand work such as digging, scraping, sand blasting; light carpentry work such as constructing and removing concrete forms; painting; general site clean up; any other tasks as directed by supervisor or construction crew member. Operate and maintain material handling equipment such as fork lift trucks, overhead hoists and pallet movers. Safely move large sections of steel weighing as much as 7,000 pounds to and from construction sites as required. Provide general preventative maintenance to machines and equipment used by the construction crews to include general cleanup. Perform any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or GED or equivalent education and experience. No related experience required. Ability to obtain a valid commercial drivers license. Experience loading and securing material and equipment to trucks and trailers, plus safely maneuvering vehicles. Possess a mechanical background with an understanding of general machine tools and machine tool components. Effectively work in a directed team environment that includes shared responsibilities; establish and maintain good working relationships with crew members, landowners, contractors and customers; support team and company objectives and be willing to work in any and all areas of operations as requested. Subject to Department of Transportation drug and alcohol related regulations and testing. Exposure to hazardous conditions, adverse weather, cramped conditions and heavy lifting. Effective oral and written communication skills. Effective analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently. Subject to 24-hour call-out, seven days per week, will be required to carry a pager and/or cell phone. Must be willing to work overtime including holidays, weekends and extended days. Must be willing to work away from home on occasion for extended periods of time.
