DIVISION/PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: The mission of the Bureau of Tuberculosis is to prevent the spread of tuberculosis and to eliminate it as a public health problem in the city of New York. The goals to achieve this mission are twofold; to identify all individuals with suspected or confirmed TB disease and ensure their suitable treatment and to ensure that individuals who are at possible or high risk for contracting TB are identified and treated as appropriate. JOB DESCRIPTION: The Public Health Nurse will be assigned to one of the Bureau's Chest Center clinics. Nursing duties will include, but not be limited to: * Applying the nursing process to meet the needs of clients, families and communities. * Interviewing clients and families; performing case finding activities, counseling, referring and following up on cases. * Serving as a consultant to other professionals, para-professionals and the community on health matters and establishing contact with other agencies and maintaining intra and inter agency working relationships. * Performing program specific diagnostic screening tests, which may include venipuncture. * Keeping records, preparing and reviewing statistical and narrative reports, as assigned and participating in special projects and studies as assigned. Report to: Patient Care Managers (DSN's) PREFERRED SKILLS: Knowledge of all aspects of Public Health Nursing Bilingual abilities: English Spanish / English/Chinese; good interpersonal skills; knowledge of city, state and federal health regulations QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: 1. A Bachelor's of Science degree in Nursing from a regionally-accredited college or university or one recognized by the New York State Education Department as following acceptable educational practices; and 2. A license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.
