Job Description: Role SummaryDevelop new products aligned with strategic goals of the Cell Discovery and Molecular Biology Business Unit. Responsible for managing a group of scientists and research associates as well as performing hands-on laboratory research in support of product development activities. Primary Role Responsibilities * Contributes scientific expertise and proposes new ideas and product concepts targeting the research market, drawn from scientific literature and personal experience* Develops products targeting the cell biology market - innovative accessories, reagents,tools, and product formats useful to scientists engaged in basic science and drug discovery research. * Supervises group of 2 or more scientists, providing coaching and assistance to help establish and achieve project goals and timelines* Masters new scientific fields as required to maintain a product development pipeline aligned with the strategic goals of the business unit.* Acts as liaison between group members and upper management* Performs/assigns projects according to priorities and tracks project progress toward milestones and deadlines.* Establishes and maintains good working relationships and open communication with other departments such as marketing, QC and manufacturing.* Provides technical support to other departments including Quality Control, Manufacturing, and Marketing.* Participates in technology transfer of new products to manufacturing groups* Represents R and D group both internally and to external customersSkill and/or Education Requirements- Graduate degree in Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology or related discipline with at least 2 years of relevant commercial experience. Alternatively, a Bachelor\'s degree with at least 7 years of relevant experience could be considered.- Expertise and hands-on experience working with primary human and animal cells and cell lines. - Prior research or product development experience several of the following areas: transecting reagents, cell line derivation, siRNA, extracellular matrices, microarrays, cryopreservation, media development, high content and/or cell-based high throughput screening.- Broad cell biology laboratory skill set required, including hands-on experience culturing primary cells. Experience designing cell-based assays desirable.- Previous supervisory experience required with strong team leadership and interpersonal skills- Good communication skills, both written and verbal. Must be able to teach methods to others. Must be able to independently write study reports.- Strong project management skills. Experience with project management tools such as Microsoft Project required. Demonstrated record of effective goal setting and time management skill required.- Ability to multitask and manage multiple projects and people in a dynamic environment.- Familiarity with MS Office software, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.Working Conditions Majority of the work performed in office and laboratory environment.
