Interaction Web Design Assistant
Since 1992 our client has used their Contextual Design methodology to design innovative, customer-centered products, business systems, websites, and hardware/software systems. They deliver strategic market characterizations, personas, and full product, website, and system designs all defined by data and tested with users. They take a whole systems view — making their solutions work for the users, the platform, and their clients’ business goals.
The Contextual Design methodology is a customer-centered design process taught in universities and used in companies world-wide. The techniques rely on extensive field data as the foundation for understanding users’ needs, tasks, and processes in order to design solutions that work.
Our client is looking for Interaction Design Assistants to be based in Concord, MA. Interaction Design Assistants use their visual design skills to work closely with multiple teams, on a wide variety of client projects representing different user activities and technology platforms. Candidates must be passionate about creating products, systems, and websites that really meet the needs of users. Qualified candidates can expect to become Interaction Designers within 1-3 years.
Effective interaction design begins with understanding how people work on a daily basis, which is why their interaction designers are trained in Contextual Design. Design Assistants will be trained in all phases of the Contextual Design process, including field interviews with end users, data interpretation, work modeling and consolidation, visioning, storyboarding, system design, paper prototyping and final visual design. They will use these skills to provide extra hands to the team and support creating deliverables.
Job Requirements:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in graphic design, fine art, or interaction design
· One year of demonstrated interaction design experience.
· Experience designing web or client-based applications (not merely web page design) is desirable.
· Visual design experience is preferred, but not necessary.
· Demonstrated experience with the following (or similar) design software: FreeHand, Dreamweaver, PowerPoint, Photoshop, HTML, and CSS.
· Must work quickly under short deadlines, handle multiple tasks, and work in a highly collaborative team environment
· Currently living in the greater Boston area is a must
· Willingness to travel when necessary
· Special consideration will be given to candidates with a second language (e.g., Japanese, Chinese, German, and others).
Advancement will also depend on:
· Aptitude and interest in quickly grasping diverse, sometimes complicated domains without previously having worked with them.
· Systemic thinking: to see design implications in the existing work practice and envision new solutions that will improve the user’s experience while meeting the business needs of the clients.
· Good presentation and verbal communication skills, as well as positive client relation skills. Good writing is a plus.
· Strong, effective interpersonal skills to professionally interface with end users and clients.
· Willingness to travel on a regular basis, occasionally on short notice.
