Job Description:
Safely performs and directs other employees in the performance of various mechanical duties to support experimental testing of motorcycles. Performs scheduled services and repairs of test vehicles according to service requirements and work orders. Installs and removes various test parts and systems, and documents observations of test results, inspections, and serviceability requirements. Installs and configures instrumentation on vehicles for special tests. Will be required to ride motorcycles when Mechanic workload drops.

Perform pre-delivery and setup inspections on new vehicles. Configure vehicles for testing correctly and according to customer test request documentation. Perform scheduled services of test vehicles according to service manuals and repair vehicles using acceptable shop practices. Follow instructions on work orders to install or remove test items. Perform final audits on "End of test" vehicles.

Perform vehicle special inspections prior to bike being used for tests. Examples being high speed weave, brake tests, handling tests etc. Perform vehicle inspections and document results. Record activities related to vehicle service and repair. Assist test engineering customers in determining root cause and contributing causes of failures. Document configuration changes and deviations from configuration specifications.


Job Requirements:
• A high school diploma or GED.
• Verified completion of formalized mechanical training recognized in the motor industry.
• A minimum of five years of job related experience performing motor vehicle maintenance, trouble-shooting and repair.
• A valid driving license with motorcycle endorsement.
• Must pass the Motorcycle Safety Foundation Experienced Rider Course and demonstrate the ability to safely maneuver and operate heavyweight motorcycles.
• Must be able to lift motorcycle weight from parked position to upright riding position and be able to push vehicles around shop to work on them.
• Coordination of normal mental dexterity and visual attention. Must have good vision, hearing and motor skills.
• Ability to demonstrate a detailed knowledge and proficiency in one or more specialization's such as power train, electrical or chassis systems.
• Must be able to read and understand electrical schematic diagrams and trouble shoot with the proper tools.
• Must have the technical skills to assess and explain failure modes demonstrating the ability to communicate orally and in writing.
• Must demonstrate proficiency in knowledge of motorcycle systems and system operations.
• Must demonstrate good team skills, and the ability to work with and learn from others.
• Must have the ability to quickly diagnose problems and be highly proficient at solving the same.
• Some computer knowledge with the ability to input and retrieve data in a Windows environment.

Preferred:

• Desired trade school subjects should include theory, diagnostics, as well as maintenance and repair.
• Harley-Davidson and/or other motorcycle knowledge of systems and components with the ability to analyze complex failures, report observations to engineering and recommend design improvements.
• Experience in product development with an extensive understanding of research & development processes.
• Experience in using PC's as a diagnostic tool.
• Understanding of instrumentation and/or data acquisition equipment used in vehicle testing.
• Fabrication experience such as welding, machining, etc.
