Job Description:
This position reports to the Freeport-McMoRan Process Technology Center in Safford, Arizona. Under general supervision this position identifies, reports and recommends corrective action for a wide variety of workplace safety issues including unsafe conditions and behaviors.
Conducts detailed safety assessments, analyses of occupational injuries, facility design, equipment and material, audits, and incident investigations.
Develops and recommends appropriate remedial action in response to unsafe conditions or behavior.
Collaborates with site management in complying with Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold, OSHA, MSHA and other regulations and standards.
Maintains a current knowledge of Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold, OSHA, MSHA and other regulations and standards.
May oversee and direct the efforts of project staff on assigned projects.
Assists in the development and delivery of employee education and training, emergency preparedness and quality assurance systems.
Compiles and analyzes data in compliance with current regulations and makes appropriate recommendations to prevent reoccurrence.
Prepares appropriate reports and presentations for management.
Performs other duties as required.
Job Requirements:
Minimum Requirements:
Education and/or experience equivalent to a Bachelors Degree in Safety Engineering or closely related area.
Five (5) years experience in a safety field related to mining and/or manufacturing.
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
Knowledge of applicable federal, state and local laws, ordinances, statutes, regulations, rules, policies and procedures.
Technical expertise in chemical analysis, equipment and processes.
Ability to analyze information of considerable difficulty and draw conclusions.
Ability to perform sophisticated accident and incident investigation and maintain inspection records.
Ability to present a wide variety of training to diverse audiences.
Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions. Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards.

Computer literacy in Microsoft Office.
Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with management, employees, teams, and government agencies with a focus on internal customer service.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Preferred Qualifications
Professional certifications - CSP, CIH, COHST, or CMSP.
Criteria/Conditions
Work is performed in a mine or manufacturing plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms, talk, hear and see
Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) during the course of the workday
Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required
