Job Description:
Top ranked hospital in the city and hospital of choice for patients. Excellent CNO to work with.

Unit: Pedi Hem/Onc/BMT
Beds: 17 - 10 Hem/Onc, 7 BMT plus a Children’s Infusion Clinic
FTE: 40 (30 inpatient) plus 10 in the CITC
ADC: 100% occupancy with a waiting list to get in
Other: 1 Assistant Nurse Manager (mainly nights), 1 Clinical Nurse Specialist, 1 Admin Manager

Department Strengths:
• Physician staff is well respected from a clinical standpoint.
• Department is well staffed with low vacancy
• There is a lot of support from supporting departments (chaplains, child life, etc.).
• Very low physician quality complaints.
• $1.5M expansion for the clinic finishes in 3/08
• Very strong Quality Assurance – reviewed every Friday and is interdisciplinary

Department Challenges:
• The unit is space constrained, and patients are sometimes overflowed to other units.
Relationship to Other Units:
• N/A – Unit is primarily isolated. There is a stronger relationship to ancillary units such as lab and pharmacy.
• Tight relationship with TTI (Texas Transplant Institute) as they manage the 501a where the on staff physicians are paid and managed.
Minimum / Desired Qualifications:
• BSN – minimum requirement, MS strongly preferred
• Pediatric Hem/Onc or Pediatric BMT experience required. Combination preferred.
• Outpatient Hem/Onc/BMT experience desirable.
• 3-5 years previous management experience required.
• Texas RN license
Desired Candidate Attributes:
• Strong leadership skills for staff and physician relations skills for doc’s.
• Assertive, yet polished. Has to be forceful when necessary, yet politically astute.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Must be comfortable with clinical skills in this particular specialty. There is not a lot of hands on patient care, but the incumbent must be competent to make program recommendations as required.
• Ability to recruit good staff; knowledge of staffing and financial acumen
• JCAHO / Regulatory Compliance experience a must
